Description

1966 ABARTH 1000 SP. In 1966, Abarth reached a turning point with the SE04 project—the Fiat Abarth 1000 SP—where '1000' refers to the engine displacement (982 cm³) and 'SP' stands for Sport Prototype. The 1000 SP used an evolution of the Abarth twin-cam engine based on the Fiat 600 block, producing about 105 HP at 8,000 rpm. With a dry weight around 480 kg, it could exceed 220 km/h. The car quickly racked up victories in hill climbs and endurance events. Built in 1966, it raced with several private drivers until 1984, when it was acquired by its last owner and preserved. The bodywork remains well-preserved; the mechanicals were fully restored in 1985 by Falorni of Castelfiorentino. This 1000 SP is still fully functional and was equipped with a Colotti gearbox. It is ready for historic revivals, classic races, and is eligible for Le Mans Classic.
